Extremely long aluminum spindle
Bornemann Gewindetechnik GmbH & Co KG in Delligsen has delivered a hitherto unique custom-made product: an aluminum spindle over 22 m long with a diameter of 200 mm. It consists of several segments and was delivered to a globally active company in the field of conveyor technology.

The manufacturer Bornemann has thus once again demonstrated its market position as a global supplier of customized drive spindles with special threads in small batch sizes. All common machinable materials are processed. In the case of the special production, it was aluminum due to the weight savings. Special tools were made for this purpose. Bornemann Gewindetechnik masters the production of very different spindle threads.
The complete process chain for thread production is covered, including the final application-related machining of the spindle ends and surface finishing. The thread of the over 22 m long aluminum spindle is an absolutely special solution in this area. The varying thread pitch for use as a steering shaft in conveyor technology changes the speed of the driver running on the spindle without the usual disadvantages. Usually, the advantage of a varying pitch is offset by the disadvantage of a distorted flank. The result is that the roller in the thread track does not always make contact with the flank to the same extent. This is not the case with the aluminum spindle. The basis for spindles with special thread forms is laid during production.
The special shapes of Bornemann Gewindetechnik spindles can be seen in the thread depth, thread form, thread pitch and flank angle. Thread lengths of up to 20 m are possible. Despite varying pitches, the flank angles remain the same. Multi-start threads are not uncommon. For example, fifty-start threads are often produced. The spectrum of spindle and thread materials ranges from ferrous alloys to machinable exotics such as special bronzes, plastics, anti-magnetic steels and aluminum. There is also a wide range of additional customer-specific manufacturing processes, such as heat treatment, surface finishing and coating.
In-house prototype construction ensures the success of joint developments with customers at an early stage. It makes a significant contribution to ensuring that short delivery times of two to three weeks are always met. This applies both to threaded spindles in special shapes, including spindle nuts, and to large ready-to-install trapezoidal screw drives. These drive elements consist of spindles and nut sets. They can be found in railroad lifting systems, in platform technology and in gate valves for dams and reservoirs.
